Maculata or Spotted Gum is the endemic species on the Sapphire coast and their bark and trunk colouring are quite spectacular. This painting depicts a scene in the forest one morning where the forest floor was lit up from sunlight glancing off the tall trees surrounding the area. There are many straight tall trees together all with individual markings. The painting took many hours because each alternate trunk was painted and had to completely dry before proceeding with the missing ones. There are quite a few layers of paint on each trunk scape building up to the final finish. This technique provides a rich surface similar to texture but done with colour. Similarly the leaves of the forest floor was a very slow build up of layers by areas.
