Walking on the rock shoreline of Opossum Bay Tasmania many times provided the opportunity for a thorough understanding and appreciation of its beauty, colour and texture.  Seeing various human and animal like shapes as I strolled along led eventually to the inspiration behind this painting.

I have tried to impart the beauty of the coastline whilst giving the viewer an opportunity to also experience the sensations of pareidolia similar to the actual experience.  The aspect of ambiguity and secrets has long fascinated me as an artist.  I endeavour to bring these experiences to the viewer through painting.

Pareidolia at Opossum demonstrates an ambiguity of form, evoking the essence of the landscape but providing opportunity to see shapes interpreting them as you might in nature.  Quite a pareidolia if you will.

Because the medium of oils is one of sensuality it allows a freedom that is perfect as a means of conveying strong feelings through colour and texture.

Using a variety of pallet knives assists in carving out the desired imaginary
