Southern View

It was inspired by the Derwent coastline around Belle Rive Tasmania looking south to Bruny Island and beyond. Southern View demonstrates on one hand the vastness of ocean water and on the other the total lack of water available for human consumption. The murky colour of the foreshore reminds us of the fragility of our dependence on water. The medium of oils is one of sensuality and freedom which is irresistible as a means of conveying strong feelings through colour and this piece is no exception. This painting was predominately executed using a variety of pallet knives which carves out the desired image with some strength. Brush work of the ocean and islands provides a juxtaposition to the texture of the cliffs allowing a calm to balance the ruggedness of the rock landscape.
